Ski mountaineering in Norway

Ski mountaineering in the Lyngen Alps, a fairytale world where light and colour take on a magical quality.

The Lyngen Alps lie above the Arctic Circle in Norway; the town of Tromsø is the capital of the Northern Lights, and in this region the mountains rise straight out of the sea. Wild mountains overlooking the icy waters of the north, descents on pristine snow towards the high fjords plunging into the sea, and the Northern Lights accompanying us as we return from our outings. A trip, a course, a dream!

Ski touring in the Lyngen Alps

Programme

Imagine skiing with a stunning sea view over the Norwegian fjords, on the very best snow, and skiing right down to the water’s edge – a dream, a priceless adventure. The Lyngen Alps offer a vast array of routes for all levels, starting right by the sea! In this region, the ski touring season begins in February and ends in May.

Daily excursions involve an elevation gain of between 800 and 1,200 metres; the required technical ability for the descent is that of an intermediate to good skier. (There’s nothing to stop us from doing two excursions a day.) If the group is of a similar ability and experienced, more challenging routes can also be selected. Participants will learn how to assess the snowpack, use ski mountaineering equipment correctly and carry out a search for a person buried in an avalanche correctly.

Day 1: Flight from Milan to Tromsø, with a stopover in Oslo, then on to Tromsø.

Days 2–7: A different destination every day, exploring this Nordic paradise for ski mountaineering. The programme and destinations of the outings will be agreed with the participants according to the group’s level and ability, as well as the weather and the stability of the snowpack.

Day 8: Breakfast, transfer to the airport and return to Italy.

During the excursions, you may come across herds of wild reindeer that roam these moors. During each outing, we will explore and focus on aspects relating to snowpack assessment, safety and the use of self-rescue equipment.
