The Mori Monte Albano via ferrata was built by the S.A.T. of Mori in 1976 in honour of Ottorino Marangoni, and equipped almost exclusively with a metal safety cable and a few iron pitons. Given the exposure of the face, this made it an extremely difficult via ferrata. The type of rock and the large number of climbers who have tackled it meant that the rock at key points had become too ‘slippery’ and worn to allow safe passage. This is why the via ferrata was completely refurbished and, after three years of work, reopened in 2014.
Despite the improvements made, the Monte Albano via ferrata remains a very difficult and exposed route that must never be underestimated. Right from the start, it puts climbers to the test with a challenging opening section: a stretch of rock about 3 metres long, equipped only with a step set quite high up and lacking a steel cable, which requires climbing up a crack. This section is more difficult than the rest of the via ferrata, but often forces climbers to turn back.
