The route starts from the Cosmiques refuge, not far from the Col du Midi. You begin by climbing northwards along the standard route up the first of the three Mont Blancs. After passing an initial section with many seracs, the climb continues to the right, reaching the shoulder of the Mont Blanc du Tacul.
Cross over to the opposite side to reach the Col Maudit. The ascent continues across the large glacial cirque of Mont Maudit, and after climbing a short but steep slope of around 50 degrees, you reach the Col du Mont Maudit (4,345 m).
From this gently sloping pass, you reach the Colle della Brenva (4,309 m), and from here begins the final stretch along the north-east ridge of Mont Blanc, which, after the final steep ascent of the Mur de la Cote, leads to the summit.
