A lovely walk through the woods of the Ledro Valley leads from Biacesa, a small village situated a few kilometres from Lake Garda, to the start of the ‘Fausto Susatti’ via ferrata, also known as the Cima Capi via ferrata.
Once you’ve put on the appropriate technical kit, you leave the path to set off on the via ferrata. A succession of easy climbing sections, metal ladders and rocky outcrops takes you along the ridge that rises sheer above Lake Garda. The views over the lake, the Sarca Valley and all the surrounding mountains are spectacular. The via ferrata is never difficult, but many sections are exposed; indeed, the route runs along an exposed ridge and should therefore not be underestimated.
At the end of the via ferrata, you can continue along a path that takes you to the trenches and tunnels from the First World War; an interesting blend of history, nature and sport.
The descent takes place through a majestic beech forest, along an old military road which, leaving the Capanna Santa Barbara behind, leads back to Biacesa in a few hours.
