Once we reach Passo d’Ampola, at the end of the Ledro Valley, we leave the van and start getting ready for our adventure. After putting on our wetsuits, neoprene booties, trainers, harnesses and helmets, we set off uphill (about 15 minutes) to reach the top of the canyon. In a cool pool at the entrance to the canyon, the Alpine Guides will hold a brief but detailed briefing to explain the activity, the rules and the behaviour expected of us.
In the first section, an adrenaline-fuelled slide welcomes us, followed by jumps and abseils. Slides, jumps and stretches of walking along the stream bed follow one after the other, offering a mix of adrenaline and relaxation.
The final section of the Rio Nero canyon features two waterfalls over 10 metres high, which will be negotiated via two long abseils, thus bringing this adventure in a magnificent setting to a close.
Jumps are never compulsory; participants can always decide whether they feel up to taking the plunge or whether they would prefer to be lowered by rope by the guide. For the safety of participants, jumps from heights exceeding 6 metres will not be offered. Depending on the water level of the stream on the day of the activity, the guide may decide to take a different route along a stream of similar duration and difficulty, for the safety of the group.
