Bocchette alte e centrali

A route taking in some of the most spectacular via ferratas in the Dolomites, in the wild heart of the Brenta range.

A true immersion in the heart of the massif, following the route of the legendary Via delle Bocchette – hailed as ‘the most beautiful via ferrata in the world’ – and many other spectacular via ferratas that wind their way through this labyrinth of spires and rock faces. The routes, which are often very exposed and feature vertical climbs, though never technically difficult, require a good level of fitness and stamina given their overall length.

the legendary Bocchette via ferrata

Work on this via ferrata began in 1936, carried out by the Trentino Mountaineers’ Society (SAT), with the aim of facilitating access between the various mountain huts scattered across the Brenta massif. The Central Passes, starting from Bocca di Brenta (2,552 m), lead to Bocca dei Armi (2,749 m); they are considered easier than the High Passes, although they are very exposed. They wind their way beneath the spectacular peaks of the Brenta Alta, Campanil Basso and Campanil Alto, Torre degli Sfulmini and Brenta.
The Alte passes, which are more challenging and exposed than the Centrali passes, lead to various peaks, such as Cima Molveno, the Spallone dei Massodi and Cima Brenta, linking the Bocca dei Armi (2,749 m) with the Bocca di Tuckett (2,464 m).

Short route

Day 1: From Madonna di Campiglio, take the ski lifts to the Stoppani mountain hut, then traverse the Grostè via the ‘Benini via ferrata’ to Bocca di Tuckett and descend to the Tuckett mountain hut.

Day 2: From the Tuckett mountain hut, set off for the Bocchette Alte, which cross the imposing east face of Cima Brenta, and descend to the Alimonta mountain hut.

Day 3: From the Alimonta mountain hut, set off for the Bocchette Centrali, passing between the Sfulmini spires and beneath the magnificent Campanil Basso, until you reach the Pedrotti alla Tosa mountain hut. From here, you can return to Madonna di Campiglio (3 days) or cross over to Val d’Ambiez along the Brentari path, descending to the Agostini mountain hut (5 days).

Long route

Day 4: From the Agostini mountain hut, set off along the Castiglioni via ferrata to the XII Apostoli mountain hut, then descend via the Vedretta dei Camosci, skirting the colossal massif of the Crozzon di Brenta, to the Brentei mountain hut.

Day 5: From the Brentei mountain hut, a traverse to the Graffer mountain hut (via the Sosat via ferrata on request, otherwise via the normal route) and a descent to Madonna di Campiglio.

*Optional Day 6: On request, it is possible to stay overnight at the Graffer mountain hut, so that the following day you can walk along the stunning Costanzi trail to the M. Peller mountain hut, followed by the return transfer.
