Participants will need to demonstrate their experience right from the very start. The route begins with a steep, almost vertical wall; once this has been climbed, the route moves off to the left, featuring exposed traverses and slabs of compact limestone that require skilful use of the feet. The final section of the via ferrata involves climbing an exposed pillar leading to the final ridge, which is followed in a south-westerly direction to the summit.
On the descent, there are two options to choose from, depending on how tired you are. Both routes lead to the village of Ranzo at the start. From here, the longer but easier route follows a tarmac road which heads first north and then east, winding its way into the Toblino Gorge before emerging roughly halfway along the lake. The second, more challenging route, from the village of Ranzo, heads first south and then south-east before descending along the south-eastern slope of Piccolo Dain, with a steeper descent that is aided in places by metal cables.
