We suggest that you carry out the snowpack assessments, trip planning and the considerations normally covered in the classroom during the trip itself, so that you can consolidate them by linking them to moments of direct experience.
A wide range of topics are covered: ascent techniques, descent techniques, analysing and studying the snowpack – including stratigraphy and sliding tests – and practical exercises in self-rescue in the event of an avalanche.
The venue for the lessons will depend on the snow conditions at the time.
Required basic level: basic skiing ability on the slopes, to be assessed during the first advanced session on the slopes.
