The Limarò Gorge is a canyoning experience not to be missed: the second longest in Europe after the Verdon Gorges in France, it will take us along a route between the walls carved out by the River Sarca, some of which are several tens of metres high and others 600 metres high, towering sheer down to the river. A thrilling moment will be when it seems as though the rocks above us are touching, thanks to the base of the gorge being wider than the 200-metre-high section above. We’ll therefore have to make the most of the gentle current, floating through the gorge with the aid of a wetsuit, a helmet and a life jacket, in a truly unique and extraordinary atmosphere. You’ll therefore need to be in the right frame of mind for exploration to enjoy this exhilarating canyoning experience.
The meeting point will be in the village of Sarche, where we’ll drive up to Limarò, where we’ll park. We’ll descend into the canyon via a steep path through the woods. Once we’ve put on our wetsuits, helmets and life jackets, we’ll start to get used to the water. We’ll navigate a few rapids on the right, after which the water will become calm and fun. We’ll navigate round further rapids – the steepest in the gorge – before reaching a deep, picturesque stretch of still water which we’ll float through. We’ll then follow the canyon between towering walls of spectacular beauty. After a few fords, we’ll reach the final stretch and a long section of almost still water that will take us to the village of Sarche.
